Pope Leo XIV’s Vatican Inauguration Scheduled For May 18, 2025

The Vatican has officially confirmed that the inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo XIV will take place on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at St. Peter’s Square.

According to the Vatican’s schedule, global dignitaries and political leaders are expected to attend the high-profile ceremony, which will occur ten days after the election of Robert Francis Prevost. Prevost recently made history as the first American to be chosen as leader of the Catholic Church, representing over 1.4 billion followers worldwide.

In the days leading up to the inauguration, Pope Leo XIV will engage in a series of public and diplomatic events. On Monday, he is scheduled to meet with international journalists, followed by a meeting on Friday with diplomats accredited to the Holy See.

The newly elected pontiff will host his first general audience on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Following that, on Saturday, May 24, 2025, he will meet with senior Vatican officials, including members of the Roman Curia.
