Police to Resume Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit Policy From January 2

The Nigeria Police Force has announced that it will officially resume the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy beginning January 2. This disclosure was made by the Police Headquarters in Abuja, following developments surrounding the legal process currently addressing the matter.

According to the Police, the decision to proceed with enforcement is temporary and will remain in effect until the final verdict is delivered by the court. Authorities emphasized that the move is not a disregard for the judicial process but a procedural step taken while awaiting a conclusive legal determination.

It will be recalled that earlier this year, concerns were raised nationwide after the Police announced plans to enforce the Tinted Glass Permit policy, which was initially scheduled to take effect on October 6, 2025. This announcement sparked legal action that resulted in a temporary halt to the implementation.

On October 2, a Federal High Court sitting in Warri, Delta State, issued an interim injunction restraining the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) from enforcing the policy. The court order specifically directed that no enforcement should take place pending further judicial review.

The injunction effectively paused the implementation nationwide, creating uncertainty for motorists and security agencies alike. However, with the Police now confirming a return to enforcement from January 2, the development signals a shift in operational approach while the case remains unresolved.

The Tinted Glass Permit policy has long been positioned as a security-driven measure, aimed at improving visibility during routine traffic checks and reducing risks associated with criminal activities. Despite this, the policy has continued to generate public debate, particularly around enforcement procedures and motorists’ rights.
