Police Seize 56 Tricycles, 94 Motorcycles During Niger State Curfew Enforcement 2025

The Niger State Police Command has disclosed the impoundment of 56 tricycles and 94 motorcycles following the enforcement of a 6 pm to 6 am movement ban on tricycles and motorcycles, which commenced on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in Minna, the restriction is part of government efforts to curb rising incidents of phone snatching and robberies within the Minna metropolis.

Abiodun clarified that while the restrictions primarily target commercial tricycles and motorcycles, private motorcycle owners are exempt. However, they must present valid identification and provide convincing reasons for being outdoors during restricted hours to avoid having their motorcycles seized.

“It is crucial to highlight that although private motorcycles are exempted, some individuals have been found using Jincheng motorcycles to conduct unauthorized commercial activities at night. Hence, any private motorcycle owner who fails to provide verifiable identification—such as proof of employment or other credible reasons—may have their vehicle confiscated,” Abiodun stated.

The Command appealed to all tricycle and motorcycle operators to comply with the temporary restrictions pending further instructions from the Niger State Government, emphasizing that the security measure is already producing positive results in minimizing criminal activities across the city.

The police also assured residents that the public would continue to receive updates as the operation progresses.
