Nasarawa Police Command Rescues Kidnapped Students

The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully rescued two students from the Federal University, Lafia, who were abducted by suspected kidnappers. The students were taken during an attack on their lodge in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.

Incident Details

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, the kidnapping occurred on March 30, 2024, around 9:20 p.m. The suspected kidnappers stormed a student lodge located behind Nasarawa Housing Estate, Tudun Kauri, in the Lafia Local Government Area. During the attack, they abducted two students identified as Sadiq Adinoyi and Sakina Adinoyi.

Swift Police Response and Rescue Operation

Upon receiving a distress call, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately mobilized officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and ‘A’ Division, Lafia.

With the aid of technical intelligence gathering, the police conducted a well-planned rescue operation on April 1, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m. The operation took place in a dense forest behind the 500 Housing Unit along Doma Road, Lafia.

Police Engagement with Kidnappers

During the operation, the police engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle. Overpowered by the officers, the kidnappers abandoned the victims and fled in different directions. This allowed security operatives to safely rescue the abducted students.

Suspect Arrested and Ongoing Investigation

One of the suspects, identified as Ibrahim Musa from Abuni village in Awe Local Government Area, was arrested at the scene. The police confirmed that Musa has provided valuable information and is currently assisting with further investigations.

Security Measures and Advice for Students

The Nasarawa State Police Command has urged residents, especially students, to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest security agencies. The Commissioner of Police also reassured the public that efforts to combat criminal activities in the state are ongoing.
