In a successful tactical operation, the Jigawa State Police Command of the Nigerian Police Force rescued 80-year-old Hajia Hajara from kidnappers and eliminated five suspected criminals in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
This was revealed by the Commissioner of Police, CP A.T. Abdullahi, during a press briefing at the Police Command Headquarters in Dutse, Jigawa State.
According to CP Abdullahi, the kidnappers—who were heavily armed and operating on motorcycles—abducted the elderly woman from her residence in Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State. Following swift response to the report, a coordinated rescue mission was launched, leading to the successful recovery of the victim. He confirmed that Hajia Hajara was found unharmed and has since been reunited with her family.
The Police Commissioner detailed that five of the suspects were neutralized during the encounter, while another five individuals were taken into custody in connection with the crime.
The police also seized a cache of weapons including:
- Two AK-47 rifles
- One Multipurpose Machine Gun (MPMG)
- Fourteen live rounds of ammunition
- Additional items related to the crime scene
Commending the efforts of the security forces involved, CP Abdullahi praised personnel from the Gumel and Ringim Area Commands, along with members of the local vigilante groups, hunters, and Yan Bulala, recognizing their bravery and commitment to public safety.
He further stated that some of the arrested suspects have been charged to court, while others are actively assisting the police in ongoing investigations.
