Police Officer Faces Backlash For Tying Ganduje’s Shoelaces In Viral Video

A Nigerian police officer has come under intense scrutiny online after a viral video captured him tying the shoelaces of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the current national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The clip, which circulated widely on Monday, features Ganduje standing as the unnamed officer kneels to fix his footwear—a gesture that has ignited a wave of disapproval across digital platforms.

Nigerians took to social media to express disappointment, questioning why an officer in uniform would engage in such a seemingly subservient act. Critics argue that it erodes the dignity and ethical standards expected of the police force.

While a few individuals suggested that Ganduje may have played a pivotal role in the officer’s life, many users harshly criticized the behavior as inappropriate and demeaning.

A user identified as @og_cemoni questioned, “Would he have done the same for an ordinary Nigerian? The uniform represents national duty, not age or status. This task should belong to a personal aide, not a law enforcement officer.”

Another user, @kelvin_kertz, expressed concern over class disparities in law enforcement: “In this country, the police serve the masses as protectors, and the privileged as errand runners. It seems the Nigeria Police Force is now adding ‘nanny’ to its list of duties.”
