Authorities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have begun an official investigation into a sexual assault complaint filed by a woman identified as Ebunoluwa Mitchell Fatoyinbo. The case reportedly involves an individual named Oscar Ilochi, a resident of Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.
The incident, which gained traction on social media, allegedly took place in the basement of a local gym, where the victim was said to have been working out alone. The case drew increased public attention due to a viral post suggesting that Fatoyinbo may be related to Seyi Tinubu, the son of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, the police have firmly stated that there is no known connection between the victim and the presidential family.
Official Police Statement
According to Josephine Adeh, spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, the authorities are now actively investigating the matter. The police have also started reviewing CCTV footage from the gym as part of the evidence-gathering process.
“The FCT Police Command is aware of a viral report on social media concerning a case of sexual assault involving Miss Ebunoluwa Mitchell Fatoyinbo,” the statement reads. “We wish to clarify that the suspect in question is one Mr. Oscar Ilochi, and a formal complaint was indeed filed.”
Adeh further advised the public, including media outlets and social media users, to verify all claims before sharing or reporting them, in order to avoid spreading misinformation. Citizens are encouraged to rely solely on official police communication channels for updates.
This development comes amid growing concerns over gender-based violence and the need for justice and accountability in Nigeria’s capital city. The police have promised to conduct a transparent and thorough investigation.
