Police Detain School Principal Over Ibadan Carnival Stampede

The Oyo State Police Command has detained Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, following a tragic stampede during a children’s carnival held at the school.

Reliable sources revealed that Fasasi was invited by the police on Wednesday evening and has been in custody since then. According to a family member who spoke under anonymity, the principal responded to the police invitation at approximately 4:00 p.m. but was subsequently detained at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Iyaganku, Ibadan.

The relative stated:
“The principal, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, was invited to the police station around 4:00 p.m. yesterday and has been in detention since then. He has not been released.”

In connection with the incident, the Oyo State Police Command has also invited two notable individuals for questioning:

Naomi Silekunola, an estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, who organized the children’s carnival.
Oriyomi Hamzat, a prominent Ibadan-based radio station owner.

As of the time of this report, the police confirmed that neither Silekunola nor Hamzat has appeared for questioning. Police Public Relations Officer Adewale Osifeso stated:
“We are yet to receive them for questioning. The public will be thoroughly updated as developments occur.”
