The Delta State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against criminal activities across the state. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olufemi Abaniwonda, revealed that a total of 627 suspects linked to murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other serious offences have been apprehended from January 2025 to the present time.
Speaking in Asaba, the state capital, the police commissioner made this disclosure while briefing journalists on the operational achievements and security progress recorded by the command so far this year. According to him, the arrests were the result of sustained intelligence-led operations, targeted patrols, and coordinated tactical responses deployed across various parts of Delta State.
Mr. Abaniwonda further disclosed that during these operations, law enforcement officers successfully recovered a total sum of ₦36 million, which had been collected as ransom by criminal elements. The recovered funds, he noted, represent a significant disruption of kidnapping networks operating within the state.
The commissioner emphasized that the Delta State Police Command remains committed to strengthening public safety, improving response time, and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice. He added that the command’s achievements reflect improved collaboration among security units and enhanced strategic planning aimed at curbing violent crime.
Addressing the public, the police boss reassured residents that security agencies would continue to intensify efforts to maintain law and order. He also encouraged citizens to cooperate with the police by providing credible information that could assist in preventing criminal activities and sustaining peace across communities in Delta State.
