Plateau State Police Restrict Activities for Christmas and New Year’s Peace
As the festive season approaches, the Plateau State Police Command is calling for peace and unity to ensure a safe celebration of Christmas and the New Year. Following last year’s tragic incidents of violence, which resulted in significant casualties and the displacement of thousands, authorities have introduced restrictions to maintain security across the state.
Key Security Measures
Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, has outlined comprehensive security measures to safeguard all 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state. These steps aim to prevent any disruptions and foster a peaceful atmosphere during the holiday season.
To enhance safety, the following restrictions will be enforced in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos, and Mangu LGAs between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM daily from December 23, 2024, to January 3, 2025:
- Night Grazing: Strictly prohibited for herders.
- Night Farming: Restricted to prevent undue risks.
- Late-Night Beer Parlour Operations: Banned to deter gatherings that may escalate into conflict.
- Night Mining Activities: Completely disallowed for safety reasons.
- Commercial Motorcycles (Okada): Operations are banned during restricted hours.
Additionally, a total ban on commercial tricycles (Keke Napep) will apply within the Jos/Bukuru Metropolis on December 25–26, 2024, and January 1, 2025. The existing ban on commercial motorcycles across the state remains in effect.
Security Collaborations and Deployments
Personnel have been strategically deployed to identified flashpoints, while the Command collaborates closely with the military, other security agencies, and local vigilante groups to secure Plateau State’s borders during the celebrations.
Commissioner’s Appeal for Cooperation
The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, has urged residents to adhere to these restrictions and actively support the efforts of security personnel. “Let us work together to ensure a safe and joyful celebration for everyone,” he emphasized.
With these measures, Plateau State is set to enjoy a secure and peaceful festive season, ensuring that all citizens can celebrate without fear.
