Phyna’s Sister: Dangote Group Explains Plans to Fly Ruth Otabor Abroad for Treatment Before Her Death

The Dangote Group has revealed that it had finalized arrangements to transport Ruth Otabor, the sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, to India for specialized medical care before her untimely passing.

In an official statement released on Sunday via its verified X (formerly Twitter) account, the company extended condolences to the Otabor family while clarifying that contrary to public assumptions, efforts were indeed underway to ensure Ruth received advanced treatment abroad.

According to reports, Ruth Otabor tragically died on Sunday, weeks after sustaining critical injuries in an accident involving a Dangote Cement truck along the Auchi road in Edo State. The crash, which left her with severe leg injuries, led to an amputation prior to her eventual demise.

Following the incident, Phyna had publicly accused the Dangote Group of failing to fulfill its commitment to fly her sister out of the country for urgent treatment. However, the company countered this claim in its condolence message, noting that preparations had already been made for Ruth’s transfer overseas but were awaiting medical clearance from her attending doctors.

The statement reads:

“We are profoundly saddened by the loss of Miss Ruth Otabor, who sustained life-threatening injuries in the unfortunate road accident involving one of our trucks in Auchi, Edo State. On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and loved ones during this very difficult period.

Since the accident, our dedicated officials, together with our insurance partners, have consistently been present to support Ruth and her family. We have borne all financial and medical expenses while working hand in hand with her healthcare providers.

Plans had already been made to airlift her to India for further medical treatment, pending final approval from her doctors.”
