Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has publicly accused the Dangote Group of failing to honor their promise of sponsoring her younger sister, Ruth Otabor, abroad for urgent medical treatment.
According to reports by LMSINT MEDIA, the heartbreaking incident occurred on August 13, 2025, close to Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, when Ruth was allegedly struck by a Dangote-owned truck. The vehicle was said to have been operated by an underage and unlicensed driver.
The unfortunate accident came barely six days after Ruth completed her graduation. The impact of the collision led to the amputation of her left leg, while her right leg has also been declared at severe risk by medical professionals.
Phyna’s Emotional Revelation
In a series of emotional social media updates on Wednesday, Phyna disclosed that her sister’s health condition was far worse than what had been earlier made public. After visiting Ruth in person, she expressed deep concern and frustration over the handling of the matter by the Dangote Group.
She revealed that conversations had been ongoing between her and representatives of the company. Initially, Dangote Group reportedly agreed to her request for Ruth to be transferred abroad—specifically to India—for advanced medical treatment.
Shift in Dangote Group’s Position
However, instead of making immediate arrangements for international medical care, Ruth was first moved to Lagoon Hospital in Lagos. At that point, Phyna was instructed to provide a comprehensive medical report regarding her sister’s condition.
Phyna explained that after submitting the required report without delay, the Dangote officials suddenly changed their stance. They informed her that they would need to consult further medical experts before making any decision regarding her sister’s transfer abroad.
Adding to her frustration, the officials later requested yet another report from Lagoon Hospital confirming that Ruth’s case could not be properly managed within Nigeria.
Silence From Dangote Officials
In a detailed and lengthy Instagram post, Phyna shared her disappointment, stating that the Dangote Group official she had been directly communicating with had ignored her messages for more than 24 hours. This silence, according to her, casts doubt on the company’s sincerity and commitment to keeping their promise.
The reality TV star made a direct appeal to Aliko Dangote, the Chairman of the Dangote Group, urging him to personally intervene and ensure her sister’s life is not endangered by unnecessary delays.
“My sister’s life must not be put at risk. She requires urgent care, and local hospitals do not have the facilities to manage her case. Dangote must honor their promise,” Phyna emphasized in her statement.
