The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has officially announced a nationwide strike, sending shockwaves across the country’s oil and gas industry. The declaration comes at a critical time when the Nigerian economy is heavily dependent on crude oil revenues, and any disruption in operations could have far-reaching implications.
The strike is expected to impact petroleum production, refining, and distribution, possibly leading to shortages of fuel across different states if the situation persists. PENGASSAN leaders have emphasized that the action was not taken lightly, but rather as a last resort after exhausting dialogue and consultations.
Stakeholders have therefore called on the Federal Government and the Ministry of Labour to urgently intervene and resolve the matter before the strike escalates further. The resolution of this crisis is vital, not only to safeguard the interests of oil and gas workers but also to protect the overall stability of Nigeria’s energy supply chain.
