The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended Ghana’s commitment to democratic principles, celebrating the recent victory of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its President-elect, John Mahama, in the December 7, 2024, presidential election.
PDP Applauds Ghana’s Democratic Progress
In an official statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP described the election outcome as a triumph of democracy. It highlighted the victory of the opposition NDC as a testament to the resilience of the people in overcoming poor governance and oppressive policies.
The PDP drew comparisons between Ghana’s political evolution and the current state of governance in Nigeria under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
A Signal for Change in Nigeria
According to the statement:
“The success of democracy in Ghana, through the NDC, is a clear reflection of the power of the people triumphing over misrule and harsh policies. This mirrors the current struggles in Nigeria under the corrupt and insensitive administration of the APC.”
The PDP asserted that the outcome of Ghana’s election is a wake-up call for the APC, signaling that the will of the people will prevail in Nigeria as it did in Ghana.
The statement continued:
“The Ghanaian election result is a sign that the APC’s days in power are numbered. Nigerians, like Ghanaians, will use the power of their votes to end oppressive governance and restore the nation to a path of progress, security, and economic stability under the PDP in 2027.”
A Call for Electoral Integrity
The PDP urged Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to prioritize the demands of Nigerians by ensuring credible and transparent elections.
The statement emphasized the following points:
- Avoid Election Manipulation: INEC must ensure the integrity of the electoral process, avoiding the mistakes of the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections, where allegations of manipulation were widespread.
- Empower the Will of the People: The electoral body and other institutions must respect the people’s decision.
Encouraging Nigerians to Stay Resolute
The PDP encouraged citizens to remain steadfast in their resolve to end APC’s rule.
“We urge Nigerians to stay united and committed to the goal of restoring good governance through the PDP come 2027,” the statement concluded.
