UK-based Nigerian pastor Tobi Adegboyega, founder of SPAC Nation church, recently spoke out on the controversies surrounding his immigration status and allegations of financial misconduct. In a BBC interview on Friday, Adegboyega clarified that contrary to reports, there is no deportation order against him, despite claims of an immigration tribunal ruling for his removal from the UK.

Adegboyega, who arrived in the UK in 2005 on a visitor’s visa at the age of 25, acknowledged overstaying his visa. However, he explained that the delay in regularizing his immigration status was unintentional. “I lost track of time,” he said, revealing that he had assumed his family was handling the necessary paperwork.

The pastor also addressed the claims linking him to a £1.87 million fraud involving church funds, calling the allegations “baseless” and blaming “disgruntled members” of his congregation. “How on earth do you run an organisation without disgruntled people?” he asked during the interview.

In defense of his church’s impact, Adegboyega highlighted SPAC Nation’s community work in the UK, particularly in combating gun violence and reducing knife crime. “Our church has helped get hundreds of knives off the streets,” he said, underscoring the positive contributions of his ministry.

Responding to criticisms of his luxury lifestyle, the pastor explained that his fashion choices are deliberate. “I put on what is right, what connects to the generation I’m speaking to, so they are not attracted to drug dealers,” he stated.

While the legal battle over his immigration status is ongoing, Adegboyega made it clear that no deportation order has been issued and that the issue is now in the hands of the judges.
