Residents of Ijabe, a community in the Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, are gripped with fear after a petrol tanker carrying 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) burst into flames on the highway connecting Osun and Kwara States.

Eyewitness reports reveal that the massive fire caused significant traffic disruption as vehicles were forced to make a U-turn to avoid the danger. Jamiu Opeyemi, a local resident, confirmed that the incident has led to a complete standstill, leaving many travelers stranded.

The spokesperson for the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the unfortunate event. She noted that while the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, it has created chaos in the area. Adeleke said, “The incident has not only blocked the road but also disrupted vehicular movement, causing panic among residents, travelers, and nearby farmers.”

Emergency responders are on-site to assess the situation and ensure public safety as investigations continue. Residents are advised to remain cautious and avoid the affected area until the situation is under control.
