Opeyemi Aiyeola Opens Up: Fear of Divorce Made Me Cut Ties With Nollywood Colleagues After Marriage

Veteran Nollywood star, Opeyemi Aiyeola, has recently opened up on the personal reasons behind her decision to cut off communication with her colleagues in the Nigerian movie industry following her marriage.

The seasoned actress made this revelation during an engaging session on Oyinmomo TV, where she candidly discussed her prolonged absence from the entertainment scene.

Aiyeola, who quietly stepped away from Nollywood for over ten years, shared that she moved to the United States after tying the knot with her husband, Olayiwola Abdulwakilu. During her time away, she prioritized building her home and nurturing her family over her career.

While elaborating on her decision, Opeyemi explained that she intentionally blocked the contacts of her industry peers due to the fear of marital breakdown. She was determined to preserve her marriage and steer clear of the negative patterns often associated with celebrity unions.

In her words:

“I was away from the movie industry for more than a decade, and I deeply apologize to my loyal fans. My marriage is very important to me, so I made a deliberate choice to block all my colleagues’ contacts to avoid any interference.”

Opeyemi further emphasized the public’s misconceptions about celebrities’ private lives, noting that many are quick to judge entertainers without understanding the complexities behind their personal relationships.

“We should acknowledge the role of our spouses in this journey. People often claim that actors and actresses don’t have stable homes, yet they are unaware of the underlying factors that affect these marriages. I was determined not to let my marriage suffer the same fate, which is why I blocked everyone in the industry for ten years.”

The proud mother of two boys added that she eventually reconnected with her colleagues when she resumed her acting career. She highlighted the personal sacrifices she has made for her family and expressed her readiness to fully reestablish her career.

“Now that I have my two boys and have sacrificed so much for them, it is time for me to rediscover and build my career,” she concluded.
