Fatal Cele Expressway Accident In Lagos Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

A multi-vehicle crash on Cele Expressway in Lagos, heading toward Oshodi, has resulted in one fatality and two serious injuries, according to an official update from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

Accident Overview

In a statement issued on Saturday by LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the incident involved a 40-foot container-laden truck, five commercial buses, and two privately-owned cars—a Toyota Camry and a Toyota Sienna.

Initial investigations revealed that the container truck, traveling at a high speed, suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control. The containers became dislodged and crushed multiple vehicles, leading to one pedestrian’s death and injuries to two others.

Emergency Response

Bakare-Oki noted that the injured, including a commercial bus driver who sustained compound fractures in his limbs, were rushed to Isolo General Hospital by LASAMBUS for urgent medical care.

The rescue operation was swiftly coordinated by LASTMA, in collaboration with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and concerned civilians. Officers from Ijesha-Tedo Police Division were also present to maintain order and support recovery efforts.
