In a groundbreaking move to boost Nigeria’s cultural and tourism sectors, the Ogun State Government has unveiled plans to collaborate with Terra Kulture in establishing a state-of-the-art entertainment and film village. This initiative is strategically timed to align with the 2025 National Sports Festival, which the state is set to host.
Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun disclosed this during a courtesy visit by Bolanle Austen Peters, the Chief Executive Officer of Terra Kulture, to his office in Abeokuta. The governor emphasized that this development would honor Ogun’s rich legacy in music, film, and drama.
“From the beginning of our administration, we’ve envisioned a creative arts zone, but urgent priorities delayed us. Now, we’re ready to push forward in culture, music, and film,” Abiodun said.
According to him, the first phase of the entertainment village is set to launch within 60 days, marking a significant milestone toward its full realization. The state government is eager to co-invest and entrust the operational management of the village to Terra Kulture.
This landmark facility will also preserve the contributions of legendary figures like Fela Kuti, Wole Soyinka, and MKO Abiola, offering educational and tourism opportunities.
Abiodun added that renovation works are underway at iconic sites such as Olumo Rock, with plans to rejuvenate historic landmarks including Fela’s mother’s residence, MKO Abiola’s house, and the building where Queen Elizabeth II was once hosted.
“We aim to give our heritage a new lease of life. These sites will soon be more vibrant and visitor-friendly,” the governor added.
As the state prepares to welcome between 12,000 to 15,000 participants for the National Sports Festival, the cultural facelift will serve as both a tourist attraction and a tool for economic stimulation.
A Hall of Fame is also in the works to chronicle the lives and legacies of prominent Ogun indigenes for future generations.
In her remarks, Austen Peters expressed enthusiasm over the partnership, noting that the facility will become a top-tier creative and tourist hub in Nigeria. “Ogun State has birthed many global icons. We want to create a dedicated space where people, especially students and tourists, can connect with these heroes,” she said.
She revealed that the entertainment village will include film studios, live performance theatres, restaurants, and learning centers, creating jobs and educational opportunities.
“This is more than a project—it’s an ecosystem. It will empower creatives, engage youth, and boost Ogun State’s economy,” Austen Peters emphasized.
