Popular and outspoken Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, professionally known as Odumodublvck, has once again made headlines by defending his unique rap style while boldly declaring that his song ‘Declan Rice’ is the most culturally impactful Nigerian hip-hop track ever created.
The Abuja-born artist, who gained massive recognition in 2023, claimed in a recent interview that critics who question his unconventional approach to rap music are simply “intimidated by his rise to fame and success.” According to him, their negative feedback stems from fear, not genuine musical analysis.

During a candid discussion on The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos, Odumodublvck explained the importance and global resonance of his hit single ‘Declan Rice’, which coincided with the high-profile transfer of the footballer Declan Rice from West Ham United to Arsenal FC in July 2023.
He stressed that the song wasn’t just a commercial success but also a powerful cultural symbol, especially since Arsenal Football Club used it to announce Rice’s signing. According to Odumodublvck, this move alone elevated the track to international recognition, making it the “biggest digital asset” Arsenal has ever used across its social media platforms.
“What other Nigerian hip-hop record has done what ‘Declan Rice’ has done globally? Let them mention it,” he challenged. “In the history of Nigerian hip-hop music, no song has achieved what this one has.”

Odumodublvck revealed that many emerging rappers attempt to imitate his style, but often give up after facing criticism and online backlash. He argued that this criticism is often unfair and dismissive of his creativity.
He cited one of his songs ‘Good Devil Wells White’, a collaboration with fellow artist Larry G, as proof of his lyrical depth and versatility. In his words, “I gave an A1 verse on that track.”
Expanding on his artistic diversity, the rapper emphasized that he has released verses in multiple languages, including English, Nigerian vernacular, and even Patois. He believes this multilingual flow should be celebrated rather than diminished.
“We’ve done it in every language — English, Patois, Vernacular — but they still try to downplay it. Why? Because they are scared,” he said with conviction.

The rapper also highlighted his lyrical contribution in the track ‘Cast’, asserting that no other Nigerian rap line has had more cultural weight or influence.
He challenged skeptics to present any Nigerian rap line or hip-hop song released in the last two decades that had more impact than his work. His argument: “No verse, no track has touched the culture and world stage like ‘Declan Rice’.”
“They said I’m not a rapper? That’s false. That’s not just wrong; it’s ungrateful. And God will judge them for it.”
