NSCDC Arrests Seven Suspects for Vandalizing Public Property in Abia State

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abia State has apprehended seven individuals allegedly involved in vandalizing public property. The arrests highlight the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure and combating criminal activities in the state.

Vandalism at Modern Ceramics in Umuahia

Three suspects were arrested for allegedly vandalizing and stealing aluminum materials from the premises of Modern Ceramics in Umuahia, a facility that has been inactive for years.

The suspects, identified as:

  • Uchechukwu Godwin (38) from Umuana Ndume Ibeku, Abia State
  • Ikechukwu Obasi (43) from Akanu, Ohafia LGA, Abia State
  • Vincent Ogbonna Oka (25) from Afikpo South, Ebonyi State

The arrest was made by the NSCDC’s Crack Squad in collaboration with a local vigilante group following credible intelligence. A significant quantity of aluminum materials was recovered during the operation.

Arrests in Isikwuato for Railway Vandalism

In a separate operation, four additional suspects were arrested in Isikwuato LGA with stolen railway sleepers and other materials. The joint effort between the NSCDC and the Nigerian Army led to the seizure of two vehicles—one Lexus ES 350 and one Mitsubishi bus—loaded with:

  • Railway sleepers
  • Gas cylinders
  • Shovels
  • Diggers
  • Cutlasses
  • Spanners

The suspects include:

  • Ike Promise Emeka (30) from Amechi Akwunanu, Enugu State
  • Ugenyi Onyedika (35) from Oguduasa, Isikwuato LGA, Abia State
  • Ifeanyi Okorie (35) from Oguduasa, Isikwuato LGA, Abia State
  • Chidiebere Augustine (29) from Amiyi Uhu, Isikwuato LGA, Abia State

NSCDC Commandant’s Warning

While parading the suspects at the NSCDC Command Headquarters, the State Commandant, Akinsola Aderemi, stated that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all those connected to these criminal activities.

Aderemi emphasized the NSCDC’s resolve, saying:
“Let me reaffirm the commitment of the Command to rooting out criminal elements from Abia State and beyond. We are also warning all criminal elements operating within the state to desist from illegal activities or face the full wrath of the law.”
