Northern Christian youths, operating under the banner of the Northern Christian Youth Coalition (NCYC), have formally urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate action by relieving Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, of his appointment.
In a statement released on Thursday, the NCYC emphasized that the situation goes beyond political disagreement and touches on the integrity of national security institutions. The statement was signed by the coalition’s National Coordinator, Jeremaid Hudso Bako, who noted that unresolved allegations at such a sensitive level of government could weaken trust in leadership and governance.
The youth coalition explained that its position is anchored on the principle of accountability, particularly within ministries responsible for safeguarding lives and property. It stated that allowing unanswered claims to linger could send the wrong signal to citizens already concerned about security challenges across the country.
The NCYC further maintained that decisive action by President Tinubu would demonstrate a strong commitment to transparency and responsible governance. According to the group, restoring public trust in government institutions requires leaders to be held to clear ethical and administrative standards, especially in sectors as critical as defence.
