Nigerian music star, Davido, recently boasted that he stands unrivaled when it comes to the Afrobeats genre. While the OBO crooner acknowledged that American artists like Gunna, Young Thug, and Chris Brown outperform him in trap and R&B, he confidently asserted that no one can match his skill in Afrobeats.
In a recent interview on the Ebro show on Apple Music, Davido explained that his expertise in Afrobeats is the driving force behind his continued focus on the genre. He also mentioned that whenever he collaborates with artists from different genres, he ensures that Afrobeats is always present.
He shared, “One of the things American artists appreciate about working with me is that we either meet halfway or I make them do it my way [Afrobeats]. That’s how it works. Like I said, I can’t perform trap better than Gunna or Young Thug, or sing R&B better than Chris Brown, but when it comes to Afrobeats, nobody can do it like me.”
Davido further revealed that he has over 20 tracks with his frequent American collaborator, Chris Brown. “We could release two albums right now,” he added.
