Akpabio Confirms No Presidential Communication Leak to Senate Since 2023
The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Obot Akpabio, has assured that since the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took office, there have been no instances of leaked presidential communications to the Senate. He credited this achievement to the commitment and efficiency of Senator Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly (Senate) Matters.
Speaking during a visit to the Office of the Special Adviser, Akpabio emphasized that the position requires trust and confidence from both the President and the National Assembly, particularly the Senate. He praised Senator Lado’s role in ensuring seamless communication between the executive and legislative arms of government.
Lado’s Appointment Strengthens Senate-Presidency Relations
Senator Akpabio also commended President Tinubu for appointing Senator Basheer Lado from Kano, along with other key Kano-based political figures such as Senator Jibrin Barau (Deputy Senate President) and Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje (APC National Chairman). He noted that their roles are crucial in securing Kano State for the APC in the 2027 general election.
“With Lado, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano is already positioned as a stronghold for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections,” Akpabio stated.
Security and Governance: Keeping Communications Confidential
Akpabio stressed that the absence of leaks in presidential communications is a sign of responsible governance. He warned that information leakages can harm national security and weaken the government’s efficiency.
“In governance, confidentiality is critical. Information must not be leaked to the media or social platforms, as this can disrupt government operations and compromise national security. Since Senator Lado took office, there has been no breach of trust in communication between the executive and the Senate,” Akpabio affirmed.
Lado’s Impact on the Executive-Legislative Relationship
Recognizing Lado’s contributions, Akpabio acknowledged that his role had significantly strengthened the relationship between the executive and the legislature. His methodical approach to compiling bills passed by the Senate and those assented to by President Tinubu has made legislative processes more efficient and transparent.
“You have brought a high level of professionalism to your office, ensuring that the executive-legislative relationship is built on mutual respect and efficiency,” Akpabio noted.
Senator Lado Pledges Continued Collaboration
In response, Senator Lado reaffirmed his dedication to maintaining a strong and cooperative relationship between both government arms. He expressed his commitment to fostering unity rather than confrontation.
“Mr. Senate President, your visit symbolizes the harmony between the Executive and the Legislature. It highlights the power of unity and the effectiveness of leadership built on service and cooperation,” Lado remarked.
Conclusion
The absence of leaked presidential communication to the Senate since 2023 signifies a new level of governance efficiency under President Tinubu’s administration. With Senator Basheer Lado playing a vital role in safeguarding government confidentiality and national security, the relationship between the executive and the Senate continues to be one of mutual trust and cooperation.
