NiMet Predicts 3-Day Hazy Weather Nationwide Starting Wednesday

NiMet forecasts a 3-day hazy weather period from Wednesday to Friday across Nigeria, with reduced visibility and health advisories for respiratory safety.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a three-day stretch of hazy weather conditions across Nigeria, beginning on Wednesday and lasting through Friday.

In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet reported that moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility ranging between 2km and 5km is expected during this period.

For the North Central region, similar moderate dust haze and visibility levels are projected. Meanwhile, southern inland areas will experience patches of clouds mixed with a hazy atmosphere, while coastal cities may face early morning mist or fog. As the day progresses, cloud patches alongside hazy conditions are expected to persist in the coastal regions.

The northern region is anticipated to see slight dust haze with improved visibility throughout the forecast period. However, by Friday, moderate dust haze may reduce visibility to between 2km and 5km in this area.

Localized poor visibility, less than 1km, is predicted in parts of Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Kaduna states.

NiMet also expects slight dust haze with better visibility for North Central areas and patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere over southern inland cities.

The agency advised the public to take preventive measures due to suspended dust particles in the atmosphere. It particularly warned individuals with respiratory challenges, such as asthma patients, to remain cautious under these conditions.

Additionally, NiMet recommended that airline operators acquire detailed weather reports specific to airports for better flight planning and safety.
