Nigeria’s National Security Adviser Reveals Tinubu Inherited Deep Security Crisis

Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has asserted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration came into power amid a severely compromised governance structure, particularly in the area of national security.

Ribadu made this known on Tuesday during a condolence visit to Benue State, following the brutal murder of more than 72 residents by armed assailants allegedly posing as herdsmen. The attack, one of many in recent times, has left communities in deep mourning and fear.

While condemning the killings in strong terms, Ribadu appealed to the people of Benue to avoid politicizing the violence and instead allow the current administration the opportunity to address the crisis.

“We urge the people of Benue to give this government time to work. Security issues are complex and can’t be solved overnight. Let us not politicize these tragic events,” Ribadu emphasized.

He further stated that the Armed Forces have significantly reduced the level of violence across the country since Tinubu assumed office, although the fight against insecurity remains ongoing.

“We inherited a very troubled system. Rebuilding takes time. It’s easier to destroy than to rebuild. We are making progress and will confront every challenge that arises,” he added.

Meanwhile, Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, described the current situation in the state as deeply distressing, with a staggering number of lives lost since 2011. He emphasized the urgency for federal support and tangible actions.

According to recent reports, LMSINT MEDIA confirmed that Benue and Plateau States have witnessed a disturbing increase in violent attacks in the last two weeks. Following the killing of over 50 farmers by suspected armed herders, a fresh assault was reported in Afia community, Ukum Local Government Area, where gunmen murdered eleven more residents and injured several others.
