Popular Nigerian artist Habeeb Olalomi Okikiola, widely recognized by his stage name Portable, has been handed a three-month jail sentence by the Magistrates’ Court in Ifo, Ogun State, presided over by Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo.

The singer, known for his controversial reputation, was brought before the court in April 2023 on a three-count charge involving assault and the theft of musical equipment, as listed in charge sheet No. MIF/192C/2023.

After the arraignment, Portable was granted bail set at ₦300,000, with the condition that two sureties must be members of his immediate family.

Last Thursday, the musician was once again present in court following his failure to attend several earlier hearings despite repeated adjournments. This led to his remand in custody.

According to Inspector Olumide Awoleke, the Police Prosecutor, the offence took place on November 18, 2022, around 11 a.m. in Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the jurisdiction of the Ifo Magisterial District.

In delivering judgment, Chief Magistrate Ilo found Portable guilty on two of the three counts. The court imposed a one-month imprisonment for Count 1, with an option of a ₦10,000 fine, and a two-month sentence for Count 2, with the alternative of a ₦20,000 fine.
