The Nigerian Navy has successfully intercepted and seized 1,400 litres of illegally refined crude oil in Agadagba, located in the Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State. This operation highlights the Navy’s ongoing commitment to tackling oil theft and safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime assets.
Navy Seizes Illegally Refined Petroleum in Ondo
A locally constructed wooden boat, loaded with illicit petroleum products, was intercepted by the Quick Response Team at the Agadagba Naval Outpost, operating under the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Igbokoda. According to reports, the confiscated crude oil was stored in 44 jerry cans, further evidencing illegal refining activities in the region.
Navy Operatives Act on Credible Intelligence
Lieutenant Commander A.D. Morgan, the Base Operations Officer at FOB Igbokoda, revealed that the mission was executed based on credible intelligence gathered through maritime security networks. The successful seizure underscores the Navy’s proactive approach to curbing illicit oil activities along Nigeria’s coastal waterways.
Navy Warns Oil Thieves to Vacate Ondo State
Commander of the Forward Operating Base Igbokoda, Navy Captain Aliyu Usman, issued a stern warning to individuals involved in economic sabotage. He urged criminals engaging in illegal oil refining to desist immediately or face decisive military action.
In his statement, Usman reaffirmed the Navy’s unwavering dedication to securing the nation’s waterways and eliminating all forms of illegal activities that threaten national economic interests.
Illegal Oil Refining Boat to Be Deactivated
Following military procedures, the seized wooden boat and its contents will be handled in accordance with regulations from the Defence Headquarters. The Nigerian Navy emphasized that this operation serves as a warning to all perpetrators of crude oil theft, reinforcing the message that security forces will continue to disrupt illegal activities and protect national resources.

Meanwhile, the Navy has acknowledged the vital contributions of Tantita Security Services and Gallery Security Services for providing timely and credible intelligence. Their assistance has significantly strengthened efforts to combat crude oil theft and enhance maritime security.
