Nigerian Army Reshuffles Senior Officers as COAS Approves Major Appointments

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has announced a sweeping reorganization within the Nigerian Army, approving the redeployment and appointment of several senior officers to critical command, instructional, and administrative positions.

In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army explained that the latest restructuring aims to strengthen leadership and enhance operational effectiveness across its formations and units nationwide.

According to the statement, the shake-up affects principal staff officers at Army Headquarters, two General Officers Commanding (GOCs), corps commanders, commandants of major training institutions, and brigade commanders, among others.

Key Appointments at Army Headquarters

Several principal staff officers at the Army Headquarters were reassigned:

• Major General A.A. Adeyinka moved from the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport (NACST) to the Department of Army Logistics, where he assumes office as Chief of Logistics.
• Major General A.A. Adekeye was transferred from the Department of Standard and Evaluation to the Department of Personnel Management as Chief of Personnel Management.
• Major General T.B. Ugiagbe moved from the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps to the Department of Standard and Evaluation as Chief of Standard and Evaluation.
• Major General A.A. Idris was redeployed from Defence Headquarters to head the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps as Chief of Military Intelligence.
• Major General M.O. Erebulu moved from the Department of Special Services and Programmes to the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police, taking up the role of Provost Marshal.

Additionally, Major General E.A. Anaryu was redeployed from the Defence Space Administration to serve as Corps Commander, Supply and Transport. Major General S.A. Akesode was posted to Ethiopia as Head of Mission for the African Union Verification Mission in the Tigray Region, while Major General J.E. Osifo was transferred from the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Accounts to the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation as Director General.

New General Officers Commanding

Two officers were appointed as GOCs to lead major divisions:

• Major General A.S.M. Wase now serves as GOC of 1 Division and Commander, Sector 1, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY). He was previously at the Department of Training.
• Major General C.R. Nnebeife was named GOC of 2 Division and Commander, Sector 3, Joint Task Force OPFY.

New Commandants for Training Institutions

The shake-up also saw the redeployment of officers as commandants of key Nigerian Army training institutions:

• Major General M.O. Ihanuwaze moved from the Nigerian Army Finance Insurance Corporation to the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration as Commandant.
• Major General K.O. Osemwegie was appointed Commandant of the Army Signal School.
• Major General A.J. Aliyu became Commandant of the Nigerian Army Ordnance School.
• Major General A.C. Adetoba moved from the Department of Transformation and Innovation to the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management as Commandant.

Other Senior Officers Redeployed

The redeployment also covered several brigades:

• Brigadier General M. Jimoh moved from HQ Operation FANSAN YAMMA to HQ 1 Brigade as Commander.
• Brigadier General N.E. Okoloagu was transferred from the Army War College Nigeria to 2 Brigade as Commander.
• Brigadier General A.A. Bello was posted from the Nigerian Army School of Infantry to 6 Division Garrison/Sector 3 JTF South South Operation DELTA SAFE as Commander.

COAS Reiterates Commitment to Security and Troop Welfare

In his directive to the newly appointed officers, Lieutenant General Oluyede urged them to redouble their commitment to duty and sustain the ongoing fight against terrorism, insurgency, and other threats undermining national security.

He emphasized that the welfare of Nigerian Army troops remains a top priority, stressing that improved morale is essential for achieving operational success.

The COAS further noted that these strategic redeployments were carefully designed to reposition the Nigerian Army for enhanced combat readiness and effective response to emerging security challenges across the country.
