In a decisive move to reinforce public safety, the Nigerian Army has launched a series of tactical raids targeting notorious criminal enclaves in Oshodi and Mushin, Lagos State. These operations, spearheaded by Brigadier General Matthew Oyekola, were executed in close coordination with local vigilantes and the Man-O-War Nigeria, reflecting a collaborative approach to addressing escalating security concerns in densely populated neighborhoods.

Strategic Military Response to Urban Crime

These recent military interventions are part of a broader initiative to clamp down on criminal networks operating within Lagos. The raids are a follow-up to Brig Gen Oyekola’s commitment made during a strategic dialogue with lawmakers at the Lagos State House of Assembly in September 2024, where he assured the public of the Army’s dedication to combating threats against peaceful residents.

“We’ve been targeting miscreants operating in Oshodi and Mushin—individuals involved in illicit activities during the day and violent crimes at night,” a military source disclosed. “They are often found smoking substances under bridges and engaging in robberies after dark. Several suspects have been apprehended and handed over for prosecution.”

Boosting Inter-Agency Security Capabilities

As part of efforts to improve synergy among security forces, the 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army recently donated a fully refurbished operational vehicle to the Lagos State Command of Man-O-War Nigeria. The vehicle, initially an abandoned asset from Operation MESA (OP MESA), has now been restored to support field operations.

During the presentation, Brigadier General Oyekola noted that the asset would significantly strengthen intelligence gathering and information sharing, crucial for proactive security responses in volatile areas.

In appreciation, Engineer Lucky Onimowo, the Lagos State Commander of Man-O-War, commended the army’s gesture and emphasized the vehicle’s role in enhancing operational readiness across the state.
