Troops Capture Suspects Responsible for Murder of Catholic Priest in Kaduna
The Nigerian Army has successfully apprehended the perpetrators behind the tragic killing of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu. The arrest was carried out by troops from Sector 7, Operation Safe Haven, who tracked down the assailants following the priest’s abduction and murder in Tachira village, Kaura Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State.
Prime Suspect Confesses to the Crime
According to a statement released by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the Media Information Officer for Operation Safe Haven, the troops launched a tactical raid on March 25, 2025, targeting the primary suspect’s hideout at Ruga settlement in Warsa-Piti village, Lere LGA, Kaduna State.
During interrogation, the key suspect, Pate Yau (33 years old), admitted to orchestrating the abduction of Reverend Father Okechukwu. He revealed that he was hired by Douglas Henry, a resident of the same house as the late priest, to carry out the kidnapping.
Troops Arrest Mastermind Behind the Abduction
Following intelligence reports, troops conducted another raid and successfully apprehended Douglas Henry at Agwan Sariki Tachira, Kaura LGA. Both suspects are currently in military custody and are undergoing further interrogation to unravel more details about the crime.
