The Nigeria Police Force has issued a strong advisory to civil advocacy groups, especially the Take It Back Movement (TIB), urging them to reconsider and withdraw from staging a nationwide protest on April 7, 2025.
According to a report by LMSINT MEDIA, the protest is being organized to challenge the alleged abuse of the Cybercrime Act and to raise concerns regarding the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
The National Coordinator of the TIB, Juwon Sanyaolu, previously revealed that the protest was scheduled to draw national attention to these pressing civic issues.
However, in a public statement released on Sunday, Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, cautioned the protest planners, labeling the timing as “mischievous” and inappropriate. Adejobi emphasized that April 7 coincides with National Police Day, a date officially recognized by the Federal Government to celebrate the valor and dedication of officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
“While citizens have a constitutional right to peaceful protest, this planned demonstration clashes with a nationally significant event that will host local and international dignitaries, including Foreign Inspectors-General and Diplomats,” Adejobi stated.
He added that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, supports dialogue as a more productive approach. He encouraged civil groups to use legitimate governmental channels for expressing their demands rather than taking to the streets on such a symbolic day.
“The Nigeria Police remains committed to upholding the law while respecting the rights of every citizen,” the statement concluded.
