Renowned American rapper Nicki Minaj and acclaimed R&B singer SZA engaged in a fiery exchange on social media, specifically on X (formerly Twitter), on Tuesday night.
The tension began when Minaj directed a sharp critique at Top Dawg Entertainment’s executive, TDE Punch, accusing him of persistent bullying. Shortly afterward, SZA posted a cryptic message advising an unnamed person not to fall for a provocation — a statement that Minaj interpreted as a direct jab at her.
In response, SZA maintained her composure and stated that she was unbothered by Minaj’s derogatory comments. She further clarified, in reply to a fan’s comment, that her earlier post was not targeted at anyone specifically.
Despite SZA’s clarification, Nicki Minaj refused to relent. She intensified her criticism, proudly asserting her musical dominance over SZA. Minaj emphasized her global acclaim, claiming to have performed in regions where SZA is virtually unknown.
In one of her tweets, Minaj expressed,
“Wait. Does SZA actually believe she’s more successful than me? Lol, somebody catch me up please. SZA, if every single song you’ve released disappeared today, the music industry wouldn’t even notice. I’ve performed in countries where people have never even heard your name. Surely, you’re not that clueless, are you?”
Minaj continued by boasting about her achievements, particularly her ability to headline massive events internationally.
All you’ve done is croon with auto-tune that still needed fixing. Listen, darling, I’m an icon — you’re not. Case closed. Also, pay that man who almost broke his back for you.
The heated back-and-forth between the two music powerhouses has further polarized their fanbases online, with many weighing in on the legitimacy of Minaj’s claims of global success over SZA.
