Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak (2 Corinthians 4:13). Numbers 13-14 recounts the story of the twelve spies sent by Moses to scout the land of Canaan, the Promised Land. They spent forty days exploring the land and brought back evidence of its abundance, including a large cluster of grapes. However, while Caleb and Joshua encouraged the Israelites to trust God and take possession of the land, the other ten spies described the land as dangerous and inhabited by giants. The Israelites, overcome by fear and doubt, rebelled against Moses and Aaron, longing to return to Egypt. God’s anger burned against their unbelief, and as a result, that generation, except Caleb and Joshua, didn’t enter the Promised Land. Despite Caleb and Joshua’s attempts to reassure them of God’s power, the people refused to believe. Here’s what I want you to notice concerning what the Lord said about the report of these other 10 spies: “And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel…” (Numbers 13:32). It wasn’t Joshua or Moses who labelled their report as “evil”—it was the Lord Himself, because it contradicted His Word. What was the evil report? God had declared that the Israelites would conquer the giants and take possession of the land flowing with milk and honey. But the ten spies said, “Even if it’s true that the land flows with milk and honey, we can’t take it.” They disregarded God’s assurance of victory and accused Moses of leading them into trouble. In Numbers 13:32-33, they said, “…The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.” Learn from this. No evil report should come from you. Be like Joshua and Caleb. Our opening verse says we have the same spirit of faith; we believe and therefore speak in agreement with God’s Word. What has the Word said about your health or prosperity? What has God said about your life and future? Affirm the same things in agreement with Him. Speak faith-filled words only, regardless of what your senses perceive. Hold fast to your confessions of faith, knowing that God’s Word is true and always prevails. PRAYERDear Father, thank you for the spirit of faith at work in me. I believe your Word, and I speak in agreement with it. I walk in health, prosperity and victory; I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Amen. Wamakko Secures Release of 60 Sokoto Prison Inmates, Offers Financial Support In a significant humanitarian gesture, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, representing the Sokoto-North Senatorial District, has facilitated the release of 60 inmates from various correctional centers in Sokoto State. The lawmaker covered the fines of these individuals, enabling them to regain their freedom and reintegrate into society. The released individuals had been convicted of minor offenses, including theft and public disturbances. In addition to securing their release, each freed inmate received ₦10,000 to support their journey home and transition back into their communities. Legal Experts Commend Wamakko’s Initiative During the official release event on Wednesday, Sokoto State’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Nasiru Binji, praised the senator’s intervention, describing it as a commendable effort toward decongesting overcrowded prisons. “This initiative is highly praiseworthy, especially given the overpopulation in our correctional facilities,” Binji remarked. He was represented at the event by Barrister Umar Aliyu, who further stressed the importance of such interventions, particularly considering the recent meningitis outbreak in some parts of the state. “This support couldn’t have come at a better time. With the current health concerns in our prisons, actions like these are invaluable. We urge other well-meaning Nigerians to follow suit,” he added. NBA Advocates Alternative Sentencing for Minor Offenses Also present at the event was Barrister Rashidat Muhammad, Chairperson of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Sokoto Chapter. She emphasized that the initiative aligns with the NBA’s advocacy for alternative sentencing, which promotes community service over imprisonment for lesser offenses. “Our association has been pushing for non-custodial sentences, and this gesture is a major milestone toward achieving that goal,” Muhammad stated. She further highlighted the timing of the release, which coincided with the holy month of Ramadan, allowing the freed inmates to celebrate Sallah with their families. “Releasing these individuals at this time is not just about freedom; it’s about reuniting families and offering them a second chance,” she concluded. Addressing Prison Overcrowding in Nigeria Prison congestion remains a major challenge in Nigeria, with many inmates held for non-violent crimes due to their inability to pay fines. Human rights organizations and legal experts have continuously advocated for reforms, including alternative sentencing and financial assistance programs like this one. For further insights into Nigeria’s prison reform initiatives, visit Amnesty International’s report on prison conditions. This intervention by Senator Wamakko not only provides immediate relief to the affected inmates but also highlights the urgent need for legal reforms to ensure that minor offenders are not subjected to prolonged detention due to financial constraints. Imo Police Reinforces Ban on Tinted Vehicles, Covered Plates & Unauthorized Sirens The Imo State Police Command has intensified enforcement against the use of tinted vehicles, covered number plates, and unauthorized sirens within Owerri and its surrounding areas. This move aims to enhance security and curb criminal activities across the state. Additionally, the movement of motorcycles within Owerri metropolis remains prohibited, with strict measures in place to ensure compliance. Why the Ban Is Necessary According to DSP Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, the indiscriminate use of tinted windows, particularly on shuttle buses, and the increasing number of vehicles with covered license plates have raised security concerns. Strict Enforcement & Consequences for Violators To ensure full compliance, traffic officers, divisional police officers, and area commanders have been instructed to enforce the regulations. Offenders risk having their vehicles impounded, with further legal actions taken against them. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16 NIV). Just because certain people have chosen a particular kind of Christianity that’s not based on the Scriptures and have decided that it represents Christianity, doesn’t mean that what they are practicing is Christianity at all. True Christianity is based on the Bible—the Word of God. Our opening scripture says, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). Every Christian believes, accepts, confesses, endorses and proclaims that the Bible is absolutely true and it’s the final arbiter concerning everything in life. Otherwise, such a person isn’t a Christian. Also, the Christian accepts that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that means He’s God in the flesh: “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). Plus that, the Christian acknowledges that Jesus died as our Saviour: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). The Christian confesses that Jesus was raised from the dead and professes that He is alive today: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9). Revelation 1:18, “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.” So it makes no difference for how long you’ve professed to be a Christian or the title by which you’re addressed; if you don’t accept, believe, and confess these truths, you’re not a Christian according to the Bible. This is the beginning of the definition of who a Christian is. Why is this so important? It’s because the transcendent life in Christ that the Bible talks about is only available to those who believe. Believing involves two essential components: accepting the truthfulness of something and confessing it, while acting accordingly. Without these, belief is incomplete. Praise God. PRAYERDear Father, I thank you for the light of your Word that defines and directs my life. I believe, accept, confess, and proclaim the absolute truth of the Scriptures. I boldly affirm that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, died as my Saviour, was raised from the dead, and now, lives in my heart by His Spirit. I live by these truths, walking in the full blessings of your Word, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. FURTHER STUDY|| Romans 10:8-10But what saith it? Zelensky Calls for Stronger US Sanctions on Russia Amid Drone Attacks Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the United States to intensify sanctions on Russia, following a series of overnight drone strikes that caused significant destruction across multiple locations. He emphasized that Moscow’s actions contradict any real intentions for peace. The Ukrainian leader particularly condemned the attacks on Kryvyi Rih, his hometown, and the Sumy region, at a time when questions remain over two recently announced ceasefire agreements brokered by the United States after negotiations in Saudi Arabia. Confusion Over Ceasefire Agreements The United States confirmed it had secured separate agreements with both Ukraine and Russia to halt attacks over the Black Sea and on energy infrastructure. However, there is uncertainty regarding the implementation of these deals. While Ukraine insisted the agreements were effective immediately, the Kremlin stated that the Black Sea ceasefire would only be honored if Russian banks were reconnected to the global financial system. Meanwhile, Russia claimed it had already paused energy-targeted strikes. Though Ukrainian sources did not confirm any attacks on energy facilities, Zelensky argued that the drone strikes undermined diplomatic efforts. “Launching such large-scale attacks after ceasefire negotiations is a clear signal to the whole world that Moscow is not going to pursue real peace,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter). Russia’s Drone Response and Ukrainian Casualties The Russian Ministry of Defense reported shooting down nine Ukrainian drones, including two over the Black Sea. Moscow also accused Kyiv of attempting to target a gas storage facility in Russian-occupied Crimea and attacking energy infrastructure in Kursk and Bryansk regions. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military documented 117 drone attacks, marking a significant escalation. Local authorities in Kryvyi Rih described the assault as the most severe drone attack the city has endured since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the local military administration, reported via Telegram that the drone strikes triggered fires and structural damage, leading to at least 15 explosions in the city. “Apparently, this is how the occupiers want peace,” Vilkul stated, condemning the ongoing aggression. At the time of this report, Kyiv had yet to issue an official response regarding Russia’s claims. The Path Forward: Sanctions and Military Strategy As tensions persist, Zelensky’s push for additional US sanctions on Russia aims to deter further aggression. Global diplomatic pressure continues to mount, with calls for international intervention to address the ongoing conflict.
