Grandmother Arrested in Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently apprehended a 65-year-old grandmother, Ramata Bola Adeyemo, for alleged drug trafficking. Femi Babafemi, the agency’s spokesperson, confirmed that Adeyemo was arrested on December 6, 2024, at Odunfa Street, Lagos Island, Lagos. At the time of her arrest, NDLEA operatives discovered 20.6 liters of codeine-based syrup in her possession.

Major Drug Seizures Across Nigeria

Arrest in Enugu Linked to Cannabis Import
On December 2, NDLEA operatives arrested Egwu Phillip Inya at the Okeyson Motor Park in Enugu. Inya was allegedly attempting to retrieve 7.40 kg of “Loud,” a synthetic cannabis strain, hidden in three pressure machines. The shipment had initially arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, on November 29, 2024.
- Following intelligence reports, the NDLEA tracked the consignment through various clearance points before it was rerouted to Enugu. Inya, who claimed to be a building engineer, was apprehended when he appeared to collect the package.

Massive Tramadol Seizure in Adamawa
On December 6, NDLEA patrol teams intercepted a Siena vehicle carrying 511,000 tramadol pills along the Hildi-Askira Uba route in Adamawa.
- The vehicle’s occupants fled after noticing they were being followed by NDLEA operatives. The abandoned vehicle and its illicit contents were subsequently seized.

Cannabis Trafficking Uncovered in Ekiti and Oyo
- Ekiti State: Two suspects, Olanrewaju Alale (48) and Babatunde Kayode Ijadahun (55), were stopped along the Ise-Emure Road while transporting 1,323 kilograms of cannabis in a J5 bus. The drugs were intended for delivery in Owo, Ondo State, before being distributed to northern Nigeria.
- Oyo State: On December 6, another suspect, Adekunle Yusuf (33), was arrested in Igboora, Oyo State. He was caught with 704 kilograms of cannabis packed in white sacks.

Additional Arrests in Lagos
On December 5, NDLEA operatives apprehended Alhaji Lawan Manga at Ogundana Street, Ikeja, Lagos. They recovered 4.7 kg of cannabis and 1.3 kg of tramadol during the operation.
