The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ebonyi State Command, has intensified its efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse, resulting in the arrest of 112 suspects and seizure of 55.947kg of illicit substances since the beginning of 2025.
According to Peter Ogah, the NDLEA State Commander, the arrests were made across various locations in Ebonyi State, as part of ongoing operations aimed at dismantling drug networks and reducing substance abuse within communities.
Detailed Breakdown of Seizures
Commander Ogah revealed during a press briefing in Abakaliki, the state capital, that the seized substances include:
- 43.582kg of Cannabis Sativa
- 0.004kg of Tramadol tablets
- 0.400kg of Tramadol 100mg (1,189 capsules)
- 0.207kg of Diazepam (988 tablets)
- 11.2kg of ‘Monkey Tail’
- 0.054kg of Methamphetamine
- 0.020kg of Bromazepam (46 tablets)
- 0.244kg of Pentazocine (84 ampoules)
- 0.014kg of Heroin
The total weight of all substances seized during this period amounts to 55.947 kilograms. These drugs were recovered from individuals engaged in drug trafficking, distribution, and consumption.
Suspect Demographics and Counseling Efforts
The NDLEA commander also shared that of the 112 suspects arrested, 85 were male and 27 were female, with ages ranging from 16 to 76 years. Out of these, 59 individuals (45 males and 14 females) underwent drug counseling as part of the command’s rehabilitation initiative.
Convictions and Additional Recovery
During this same period, four individuals were successfully prosecuted and convicted for their involvement in drug-related crimes. Additionally, one suspect was apprehended in possession of a locally made pistol, which was subsequently handed over to the Nigerian Police Force for further investigation and legal proceedings.
