NAFDAC Issues Stern Warning on the Use of Azodie in Palm Oil

The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a strong caution against the addition of Azodie to palm oil by marketers in Nigeria. According to the regulatory body, the dangerous practice of mixing this chemical substance with palm oil is done to make the product appear more attractive to unsuspecting buyers.

NAFDAC emphasized that such an act is not only deceptive but also poses a serious public health risk. The agency further highlighted that consuming palm oil adulterated with Azodie can expose individuals to severe health consequences, stressing that food safety remains a top priority in Nigeria’s public health policies.

The regulatory body urged palm oil sellers and distributors to desist immediately from the practice, warning that strict penalties await offenders caught engaging in food adulteration. Additionally, NAFDAC encouraged consumers to remain vigilant when purchasing palm oil, advising them to buy from trusted and verified sources to reduce the risk of consuming contaminated food products.

The agency reassured the public of its continued commitment to safeguarding the health of Nigerians through constant surveillance, regulatory checks, and public awareness campaigns. NAFDAC reiterated that food adulteration of any kind violates safety standards and directly endangers the wellbeing of the population.

Consumers were also reminded that they can report any suspicious palm oil products or unethical marketing practices to the nearest NAFDAC office for prompt investigation and regulatory action.
