A devastating multi-vehicle accident has left several people injured along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the NASFAT Roundabout. The crash, which resulted in heavy traffic congestion, occurred around 7 a.m. on Sunday and involved two trucks and four other vehicles.
Causes and Eyewitness Reports
Although the exact cause of the accident remains unclear, eyewitnesses attributed it to excessive speeding and poor visibility. One of the trucks, attempting to avoid a smaller vehicle at the NASFAT roundabout, lost control and crashed into multiple cars.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigeria Police, swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and ensure traffic resumed smoothly.
Rescue and Traffic Control Efforts
Several victims received immediate first aid treatment as emergency responders worked to clear the wreckage. According to Mr. Kabir Ojerinde, TRACE Deputy Commander for the Mowe-Ibafo axis, rescue operations were still ongoing as of press time.
“One of the involved trucks, fully loaded with watermelons, has been removed to ease traffic flow,” Ojerinde confirmed. He further stated that a full report on the crash, including the number of casualties and vehicle identifications, would be released after a thorough investigation.
Traffic Advisory for Motorists
Authorities urge road users to exercise patience and reduce speed while navigating the accident scene. As cleanup operations continue, motorists should adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further incidents.
