More Opposition Governors Set To Join APC Ahead Of 2027 Elections

Abuja, Nigeria – In a significant political development, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, announced that several governors from Nigeria’s opposition parties are on the verge of defecting to the ruling APC.

Ganduje made this revelation on Thursday during a high-profile political gathering in Abuja, where he officially welcomed prominent leaders of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) from Kano State into the APC. The delegation was led by Senator Kawu Ismailia, who currently represents Kano South Senatorial District.

This latest defection comes on the heels of a political bombshell dropped just a day earlier. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, along with Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, former vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, joined the APC. They were accompanied by members of the National and State Assemblies, as well as numerous local government chairpersons from Delta State.

“The Governor of Delta State and his full cabinet are now APC members. Virtually all members of the Delta State House of Assembly and representatives from the National Assembly have joined us. Even the former PDP vice-presidential candidate has moved over,” Ganduje stated.

He further emphasized that the APC’s strategic growth indicates that victory in the 2027 general elections is already within reach. “We are expanding daily. I cannot disclose everything now, but let me assure Nigerians—more governors are aligning with APC, and wherever elections hold, the APC will emerge victorious, Insha Allah,” Ganduje declared.
