Mojisola Meranda Makes History as First Female Speaker of Lagos Assembly
Mojisola Meranda has officially resigned from her position as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly amidst the ongoing leadership turmoil within the legislative body.
However, the crisis within the assembly remains unresolved as the controversy surrounding the removal of Mudashiru Obasa has deepened the division among lawmakers and party leaders in Lagos State.
Announcing her resignation, Meranda emphasized that her decision was in the best interest of the state assembly, affirming that she is not one to back down in the face of challenges.
“I take a bow as your Speaker,” she declared during her announcement.
Prior to her resignation, fellow lawmakers praised her exceptional leadership, diligence, and legislative contributions despite her short tenure in office.
Lawmaker and actor Desmond Olusola Elliot lauded her efforts, stating that she led with excellence and provided stable leadership to the assembly.
Similarly, Temitope Adewale Ifako-Ijaiye I commended Meranda, referring to her as a “heroine of democracy.” He acknowledged her significant contributions and expressed that her departure was a loss to the house.
“We celebrate you for your quality service. You came, you saw, and you conquered. You are a victim of circumstance. This house is in tears,” he remarked.
The political landscape of the Lagos State Assembly is expected to witness further developments in the coming days.
