In a decisive military operation, troops of the 1 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have delivered a major blow to terrorist groups, marking a critical success in ongoing security efforts within Zamfara State.
According to Captain Suleiman Omale, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 1 Brigade, the coordinated military offensive targeted Talata Mafara and Kaura Namoda Local Government Areas, successfully dismantling terrorist bases and helping to restore calm to affected regions.
At dawn on May 1, 2025, soldiers from Combat Team 6, while conducting a combat patrol, confronted a group of heavily armed terrorists who had invaded Mai Kwanugga village in Talata Mafara LGA.
These armed insurgents had attacked civilians and set homes ablaze, spreading terror across the area. However, they were quickly met with a well-planned and intense exchange of gunfire from the troops.
During the battle, several terrorists were eliminated, including five prominent bandit leaders identified as:
- Auta Jijji
- Dankali
- Sagidi
- Kachallah Rijaji
- Kachallah Suza
Following the operation, the troops recovered a significant stockpile of weapons and ammunition. The seized items included:
- Four (4) AK-47 rifles
- One (1) PKT General Purpose Machine Gun
- Two (2) Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers
- Six (6) RPG bombs
- 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
- 43 rounds of PKT machine gun ammunition
Brigadier General Timothy Opurum, Commander of the 1 Brigade, praised the troops for their bravery and professionalism. He also commended the local residents for their patriotism and cooperation, while reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Zamfara and eliminating all forms of criminal activity in the state.
