The Joint Task Force North West, under Operation Hadarin Daji, has addressed allegations of a military fighter jet bombing civilian structures in Silame Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
In a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullah, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, the military clarified the situation on Wednesday.
He stated, “All military operations are carried out with comprehensive intelligence and surveillance to ensure precision and avoid harm to civilians.”
This approach is especially critical in targeting groups such as the Lakurawa terrorist organization, known for its activities in the region.
Military’s Reassurance
The statement emphasized that the targeted locations, Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa, were confirmed as hubs for the Lakurawa group. These areas were carefully identified before military action was taken, reinforcing the legitimacy of the operation.
To prevent misinformation and public alarm, the military urged Nigerians to rely on verified information. It also warned of potential disinformation campaigns by terrorist organizations aimed at undermining military efforts.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah noted, “Misinformation can cause unnecessary panic, especially as we intensify efforts against terrorism and banditry in the region.”
A Call for Public Cooperation
The military’s operations are part of broader efforts to ensure peace and security in Sokoto and other parts of the Northwest. Citizens were encouraged to trust official reports and avoid the spread of unverified claims.
