A fresh wave of political realignments appears to be unfolding, this time involving the inner circle of Peter Obi, the presidential flagbearer of the Labour Party in the last general elections.

According to Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser on Media and Policy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, discussions are ongoing between key members of Obi’s team and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

During a recent television appearance, Bwala disclosed that a number of Obi’s trusted associates are either already part of the APC or in advanced negotiations to join. He emphasized that one prominent handler within Obi’s media structure has defected to the APC, while another is currently in dialogue with party officials.

Bwala stated, “Governors are coming over to our party independently. But more importantly, the strategic coordinators behind major opposition candidates are making the move too. Take Peter Obi, for instance — one of his handlers has joined us already, and another is actively in talks with the leadership. Additionally, a spokesperson from his media team has shown keen interest in aligning with our party.”

He further clarified that these defections are not driven by financial incentives. “No one is being paid to join. They’re making this choice because, while our government isn’t flawless, we are focused, intentional, and building a broad-based national unity,” he asserted.
