MAPOLY faces a controversy as 49 final-year HND students risk expulsion over fake ND results. Learn about the verification process, student defenses, and the reinstatement of the Students Union Executive Council.
Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) may expel as many as 49 Higher National Diploma (HND) final-year students after a result verification process revealed the alleged use of fake National Diploma (ND) results.
According to an update shared by the polytechnic, these students allegedly submitted forged ND results during their application for admission into various HND programs.
The affected students are spread across several departments, including Mass Communication, Pharmaceutical Technology, Marketing, Science Laboratory Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Accountancy.
Reports indicate that some of the fraudulent ND results were obtained from institutions such as The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro; Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa; and Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa, all located in Oyo State.
Verification Process and Delay in Result Release
The Public Relations Officer of MAPOLY, Mr. Yemi Ajibola, explained that the verification exercise is a routine part of the institution’s efforts to authenticate the documents submitted by admitted students.
Ajibola further clarified that the delay in releasing the results stemmed from the time required to complete the verification process. After thorough checks, it was discovered that several students had submitted fake ND results.
“We have an internal mechanism to verify results submitted by students. While some results are still pending confirmation from the institutions that issued them, others were found to be falsified,” Ajibola stated.
He added that administrative issues had caused a backlog in the verification process but assured the public that efforts were being made to resolve these delays promptly.
Students to Defend Their Results
The institution will not expel the implicated students immediately. Instead, they will be given an opportunity to defend their submitted results.
“Each affected student will receive a letter inviting them to defend their results. If any error is discovered in the verification process, we will address it. However, students unable to substantiate their claims will face expulsion,” Ajibola noted.
Resolution of Student Crisis and Reinstatement of Union
In a related development, MAPOLY has reinstated its Students Union Executive Council, which had been dissolved earlier following a planned student protest that led to the indefinite closure of the polytechnic.
A statement by Mr. Ajibola revealed that the reinstatement came after the intervention of the institution’s Governing Council, led by Emeritus Professor Kamaldeen Balogun.
“The Governing Council has directed the reinstatement of the Students Union Executive Council to resume its oversight duties immediately. The union is expected to conduct elections in accordance with its constitution and hand over to newly elected leaders within four weeks.”
MAPOLY’s management expressed gratitude to staff, students, and the entire community for their patience and cooperation during the recent crisis.
