A Pennsylvania resident, Shawn Monper, has been officially charged with making violent threats against former President Donald Trump, tech mogul Elon Musk, and multiple U.S. government officials, including agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the federal criminal complaint on April 8, 2025.
Monper, 32, was identified and arrested in Butler Township, Pennsylvania, following a detailed investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and local law enforcement. The complaint cites numerous threatening and extremist online statements made by Monper over several months.
Federal Authorities Take Swift Action
According to Attorney General Pamela Bondi, the arrest underscores the federal government’s zero-tolerance policy for threats of assassination or mass violence. Bondi commended the FBI and Butler Township Police Department for their rapid and effective work, stating:
“Whenever there are credible threats of political violence, the Department of Justice will act swiftly to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible.”

The investigation began after the FBI’s National Threat Operations Section (NTOS) received an emergency tip about disturbing content posted by a YouTube user under the alias “Mr Satan.”
Between January 15 and April 5, Monper allegedly posted multiple threats online, expressing intentions to murder President Trump, Elon Musk, and other Trump-appointed officials. Some of his most chilling statements include:
- February 17: “We just need to start killing people… Trump, Elon, all the heads of agencies Trump appointed.”
- March 4: “I will assassinate him myself,” in response to a video of Trump’s speech to Congress.
- March 18 – April 1: Monper referred to ICE agents as terrorists, writing: “If I see an armed ICE agent, I will consider it an active shooter and open fire.”
Monper also claimed to have purchased multiple firearms and stocked up on ammunition since Trump’s 2016 inauguration, which the FBI cited as a concerning element in their case.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Monper’s preliminary and detention hearings are scheduled for April 14, 2025. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan J. McKenna will be prosecuting the case.
