Adamawa Police Apprehend Suspect Linked to POS Operator’s Death

Authorities in Adamawa State have arrested a suspect in connection with the tragic killing of a Point of Sale (POS) operator. The suspect, identified as Umar SNU, was taken into custody by the Adamawa State Police Command following allegations of his involvement in a brutal attack that resulted in the victim’s death.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, the victim, 35-year-old Abbas Yuguda, was attacked on March 22, 2025, in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area (LGA) while heading home after closing his business.

“A group of assailants, armed with dangerous weapons, ambushed the POS operator, inflicting severe head injuries and leaving him unconscious in a pool of blood,” the police statement revealed.

The police further explained that officers from the Mayo-Belwa Divisional Headquarters quickly responded to the scene and rushed the victim to Cottage Hospital, Mayo-Belwa, where medical personnel confirmed him dead.

Police Investigate as Angry Mob Attacks Suspect

Following the incident, an angry mob reportedly tracked down the suspect, Umar SNU, and subjected him to mob justice before he was rescued by law enforcement.

“Upon receiving reports, our operatives intervened and took Umar SNU into custody. He was also taken to the hospital for medical treatment and is currently assisting with the investigation,” the police statement added.

The Adamawa State Police Command has assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to bring all perpetrators to justice and prevent future occurrences of such violent crimes.
