Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has urged residents to remain calm following a deadly assault carried out by armed bandits at the National Park Service Office located in Oloka Village, Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

The governor strongly condemned the incident and reaffirmed his administration’s firm commitment to ensuring that such a security breach does not happen again anywhere within the state. According to him, every necessary measure will be taken to safeguard lives and prevent a recurrence of the attack.

In an official statement released on Sunday, Governor Makinde confirmed that the violent invasion led to the loss of five Forest Guard officers serving under the National Park Service. The officers were reportedly killed while performing their legitimate duties in the area.

Describing the incident as deeply painful, the governor expressed heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the fallen officers. He noted that the state had suffered a grave loss, emphasizing that the officers died in active service to protect national assets and public safety.

Governor Makinde revealed that initial findings from security operatives suggest the assault was a cross-border operation, carried out by bandits believed to have infiltrated the area from outside the state. He assured the public that security agencies are treating the situation with utmost seriousness.

He further disclosed that multiple security formations are currently working in collaboration to investigate the attack thoroughly, track down those responsible, and strengthen surveillance around border communities. According to the governor, intelligence-led operations have already commenced to curb further threats.

The governor also called on residents of Oriire Local Government Area and other border communities across Oyo State to support ongoing security efforts by providing timely and credible information to law enforcement agencies.

Appealing for calm, Makinde stated that normalcy has been restored in the affected area following the swift deployment of additional security personnel. He reassured citizens that the state government remains proactive in protecting lives and property.

“Our administration is fully determined to respond decisively and strategically. We will not relent in our duty to ensure that criminal elements find no safe haven within Oyo State,” the governor affirmed.
