Inter Miami endured a dramatic 4-3 defeat against FC Dallas on Sunday, with star forward Lionel Messi sidelined for the match.
Messi, alongside other notable players including Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets, was rested by manager Javier Mascherano to preserve them for the upcoming CONCACAF Champions Cup fixture.
Despite securing a promising 3-1 lead at one point, Inter Miami struggled to maintain their advantage. The team’s collapse resulted in their first loss of the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season.
Mascherano’s rotation strategy, though made with upcoming priorities in mind, left Miami vulnerable. They now occupy fifth place in the MLS Eastern Conference standings, holding 18 points.
After the game, Mascherano openly accepted responsibility for the disappointing result.
“It’s not easy,” Mascherano remarked during the post-match conference. “We performed well for 65 minutes and managed to come back into the game. Unfortunately, I misread the dynamics and made wrong decisions that cost us the match.”
Inter Miami will now shift their focus to the crucial midweek clash in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, hoping to bounce back from this setback.
