Libya Transfers 18 Nigerian Migrants from Sirte to Sabha in Preparation for Repatriation

Authorities in Libya have relocated 18 undocumented Nigerian migrants from the Sirte Immigration Detention Center to Sabha, a city in the southern part of the country, as part of preparations for their eventual repatriation.

The humanitarian monitoring organization Migrant Rescue Watch confirmed this development in a statement released on Monday. The group explained that the transfer was carried out under the oversight of the Libyan Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM), which coordinated the movement of the migrants.

According to the report, the migrants were transported by road in a security-escorted convoy, highlighting Libya’s ongoing strategy to handle the repatriation of foreign nationals without legal documentation.

Migration Challenges in Libya

Libya continues to serve as a central departure point for thousands of migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea into Europe. This persists despite the country’s prolonged instability and ongoing conflicts.
