Former House of Representatives member, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, has officially confirmed his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), only hours after the Kwankwasiyya faction loyal to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso announced his expulsion.

In a personally signed statement released on Saturday, Kofa admitted that his dismissal came as a “rude shock”. However, he emphasized that he had accepted the decision with maturity and no resentment, urging the party leadership to allow him to depart in peace without unnecessary controversy.

“Although I would have loved to remain in the NNPP and continue to serve my people and Nigeria despite certain disagreements, the party has spoken. I must therefore accept the outcome in good faith and without bitterness. I only plead with the party to permit me to go in peace,” Kofa said.

Kofa Defends Himself Over TV Interview

The lawmaker, who represented Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, defended his statements during a recent television interview that was cited as the reason for his expulsion. He insisted that his remarks did not amount to anti-party activity.

“I strongly believe the views I expressed in the interview I granted days ago did not warrant such a severe punishment. My statements align with the fundamental principles of the NNPP, which encourage healthy debate and freedom of expression. For clarity, I stand firmly by every word I said,” he explained.

No Fair Hearing Before Expulsion

Kofa criticized the process through which he was removed, alleging that he was denied the opportunity to defend himself.

“No invitation or hearing was extended to me by any organ of the party, completely ignoring the principle of justice, due process, and fairness that the NNPP itself often advocates,” he lamented.

Denies Non-Payment of Party Dues

On accusations that he defaulted on his financial obligations to the party, Kofa rejected the claim, clarifying that he was willing to clear any outstanding dues.

“I respectfully ask the party to issue me an invoice, and I will immediately settle whatever remains unpaid. Such issues do not require court action,” he stressed.

Call for Civility and Next Political Move

Despite the fallout, Kofa appreciated the support he had received during his time in the NNPP, while calling on members to maintain civility as they part ways.

“I appeal to NNPP leaders and members to uphold decorum and avoid personal attacks as we disengage. For me, relationships will endure regardless of political affiliations,” he added.

Kofa, who once served as Director-General of the Tinubu Support Groups before joining the NNPP in 2022, revealed that he would carefully consult with his supporters before making his next political decision.

“I will evaluate all available options before announcing my next political platform. So help me God,” he concluded.
